Acupuncture and diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes melitus is a disease that is consider to be chronic rather than acute. People can have diabetes if their insulin production by the pancreas getting impaired. There are 2 types of diabetes, which are type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes, which is developed during childhood and adolescents age is diabetes that is caused by the inability of the pancreas to produce insulin. Type 2 diabetes , which is more common then type 1, is a diabetes that happen because our body unable to properly respond the action of insulin. SYMPTOMS


The common symptoms of diabetes are frequent urinating, being thirst all the time, sudden weight loss, impaired vision, slowly healed sore, and Tingling or numbness in the hands or feet. However, people with type 2 diabetes sometimes not experiencing any symptoms. You have to see your doctor immediately if you experiencing any above symptoms. CAUSES


As explained earlier, the cause of diabetes depend on the type of diabetes. Both of them is related with insulin matter. One thing is because the insulin is not properly by the pancreas. The acupuncturist must conduct full examination on the patient before decide which method and the treatment protocol that will be used. However, one guide that can be follow by acupuncturist is that he or she must treat the most predominant symptom or manifestation of the disease. If there is any minor symptom, then therapist can add more treatment. For example, if there is a minor symptom of kidney deficiency, then therapist may add moxibustion therapy to acupoint Qihai REN-6 and Guanyuan REN-4. Other example would be treatment to the acupoint of Quchi L.I.-11, Jiexi ST-41, Hegu L.I.-4 if there is a minor symptom of thirst.
